Sunday afternoon

Today was picture day! Anthony and I searched the mall yesterday trying to find a navy blue polo for Jace to wear and we finally gave up and found a light blue one. But of course, I was not willing to settle so I made one more stop at Kohls and I found what I was looking for! Yeah! Overall I think it was a success and I think we got some great photos. I'll post a few as soon as we get them back.

We discovered that Jace is not a fan of grass at all! But with two parents who aren't big fans of the outdoors who can really be surprised?

I'm sad to say that Jace is begining to lose a little of his pudge. But don't worry, only a little bit; he's still quite the chunker :-)

The video below was from Jace at 7 weeks old so kind of a late post but still cute :-)

And last but not least...Jace has his first tooth! Its about 3/4 out so I'm hoping he only has a day or so left of the misery. Poor baby :-(

lunchbreak thoughts

Jace is going to be 6 months old next week! Although it may come as no surprise to people who already have kids, we really had our world turned upside down after Jace was born. In tribute, here are a few memories of things that almost made me cry at the time but I find funny now:

Jace’s first night home: How can I put this simply? Trainwreck? I didn’t want to leave the safety of the hospital and for good reason! Let’s just say there were alot of tears, alot of pee, and alot of laundry!

Sitting: No one told me I would be in so much pain that I couldn’t sit on anything but a pillow for about two weeks after Jace was born. This is something that I still do not find funny

Pee: Although no one seems to remember now, Jace was super tiny when he was born and really skinny. He leaked through almost every diaper because his legs were so thin. You would be holding him and all of the sudden feel this hot wet spot and realized you were covered in pee. I think it was his way of marking us, haha. Oh, I almost forgot…when you go to the Dr, they make you take off the diaper before you put the baby on the scale. No problems, but I pick Jace back up and I feel something wet on my shirt, so I look down like an idiot and I get a faceful of pee. I am so stunned that I open my mouth in shock and get a mouthful of pee. Salty!

Chula: I think everyone knows that we sent Chula to doggie bootcamp back in March so that she could deal with having Jace around. While we were at the ranch getting our own training so we could take her home, we had a few odd experiences. Anthony got pet along the check and forearm like he was a dog, he made us spaghetti out of a dirty dog food bowl, and we watched an exhilarating video about dog movements while eating organic yogurt from the same dishes the dogs use. Ah, memories!

Our first unnecessary Dr appt: Jace must have been about a month old, maybe a little less. He hadn’t pooped in almost 3 days, he was coughing, and his eye was draining a lot so I made a Dr appt. Turns out babies don’t need to poo everyday, Jace is a fake cougher, and his eye is still watery all the time because of a blocked tear duct. So there was really no reason for us to go to the Dr but I got the feeling that this wasn’t the first time that the Dr. had seen the baby of first time parents for no reason at all. At least he was nice about it.

The winter: I was completely paranoid that Jace was going to get RSV or a cold last winter. We stayed away from other young children and babies like they were the plague. Did I go a little overboard? Probably, but I’d do the same thing again.

The odd shaped head: Jace has a flat spot on one side of his head because he sleeps with his head tilted to the left only. We went through phases of thinking it wasn’t a big deal, to thinking he might need to wear a helmet. The Dr said he’s fine but he might look funny with a shaved head…good thing he has a ton of hair!

New video

This video is from about a week ago. Sorry for my voice in the background, I can't seem to force myself to be quiet around the baby :-)

Food!

I just spent all this time updating the blog and I tried to move around a picture and I ended up deleting my post :-( So I'll try again but its prob going to be less interesting this time!

Jace has changed soooo much over the last couple of weeks, He's started solids and LOVES it (yup, no surprise the chubby baby loves to eat!) So far we've had sweet potatoes, squash and carrots. I snuck a taste of the sweet potatoes and had to stop myself from trying to split them with Jace. Yummy! I'm staring to learn that just about everything is hazardous since Jace grabs everthing he can reach now and tries to stick it in his mouth. I'm amazed at how long his arms are! He's begun his first attempts at crawling which is really cute. He tries to push with his legs but hasn't figured out that his arms can be useful as well. It provides for some comical moments! He's also figured out how to take off his diaper...a skill I don't enjoy much! He thinks its hilarious! He slaps and kicks all the time too...cute at first, a little painful now!

I'm really looking forward to the next couple of months, Jace is really on a roll. He is so happy and loves to laugh. He just started wrapping his arms around me when I carry him. Even though he does it to grab handfulls of hair I really love it. He's so soft and cuddly :-)

We had a Dr appt today...18lbs 15 oz and 27 inches. My arms have never been this strong before...if only I could carry him around wth my lower abs....

Here are a few new pics, enjoy!
